New Beginnings Education Center

New Beginnings (formerly known as Crossroads and Cornerstone) is the only public alternative school for the Osceola School District. The school serves Kindergarten thru 12th grade students, who are regular education and ESE (exceptional education). All students are recommended for placement through the district Student Services department or the ESE department and may be placed for a minimum of 1 successful semester to a maximum of 2 years.

Closing the Summer Reading Gap for Students: Parent Resources

Did you know that your student may be a victim of summer reading loss? Students can lose up to three months' worth of reading progress over one summer. Summer reading loss can be defeated through time spent read­ing with your student, providing a variety of reading material, using various Internet resources, and encouraging them to just read for fun and the pleasure of learning!

Main Idea:
The main idea is a one sentence summary of the entire passage. The answer choices may give the details of the story. However, the main idea tells the whole story in one sentence, not just some of the details. You should write or pick the answer that tells the whole story in one sentence.
To find the main idea, ask yourself, “What point is the author trying to make?” Find the idea that all of the details support. Say to yourself, “All of these details are about_______.”
